What was your initial motivation for joining the Mudfest Kaliedoscope in 2011?
I wanted to challenge myself and put my work out into the world. A big part of myself thought, 'Are you crazy? How are you going to pull this off?' Because when I pitched the idea I had no idea how I was going to make it happen. Heck, I wasn't even sure if could I draw, let alone work out some way to get those drawings to move! But that's often how I move forward with my work. I agree to things and then there's a deadline looming that terrifies me and somehow that usually inspires a last-ditch effort and I manage to pull through right at the last minute.

Is this your first mudfest show?
Yes. And first festival show ever.

Are their future plans for this show?
Yes, it will be evolving into a Fringe Show later this year and hopefully I will tour with it to other cities, and also send an altered version of it out into the world as an exhibition piece. I have already had expressions of interest for it to be showcased as a slideshow in Sydney.

Who is involved?
Bronwyn Lovell (poet) with Alex Scott (animator) and Meena Shamaly (sound designer)

What is the most exciting thing about the show and the creative process?
The most exciting aspect of the show has been working with Alex and Meena, and handing my work over to them to get creative with and not known what they are going to do with it. When you see the final product it's odd, because it's still your work, but now it's their work too, and the art takes on more than one personality and dimension. It's an amazing feeling.

How do you think audiences will react?
I've never done anything like it. So it's all new to me and I have no idea how audiences will react. I hope they will love it and ideally find it enchanting and maybe even a little hypnotic.

Anything else of interest?
Poetic Delights is an innovative example of poetry in the multimedia age. According to Bronwyn, the main objectives of the project were to explore the inter-artpossibilities of poetry, comics, and new multimedia technology; to collaboratewith other artists; to develop her own art in new directions; and to presentpoetry in an unusual way in order to engage a new audience. Poetic Delights combines poet Bronwyn Lovell’s passion for words, the moving image andstorytelling – all in the one show. “Ever since I was a little girl,” says Bronwyn Lovell, “I wanted to write stories and illustrate them as well. Thisshow has given me a chance to revisit my childhood. We’ve created a verypersonal performance, with the feel of a living storybook”.
Poetic Delights has been generously supported by funding from the Arts Departmentand the University of Melbourne StudentUnion. Poetic Delights forms part of the Poetry Double Bill event with fellow poet Darren Parker.
